TEDxSaltLakeCity Returns for its 13th annual event as an Anchor Event for the TED Countdown Global Initiative, Highlighting Local Climate Solutions and Innovations.

On Monday, September 22, 2025, TEDxSaltLakeCity will take center stage at the Capitol Theatre, uniting visionary thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and influential leaders to address one of the most critical issues of our time: climate change.

In an extraordinary achievement, TEDxSaltLakeCity has been selected as one of only 18 TED Countdown Anchor Events worldwide, making it one of just two such events in North America. TED Countdown is a global initiative by TED aimed at accelerating solutions to the climate crisis. As a Countdown Anchor Event, TEDxSaltLakeCity will amplify this global mission, curating a unique local experience that highlights actionable solutions and sparks meaningful discussions on climate change.

Why Salt Lake City? Positioned at the heart of a rapidly changing environment, at the crossroads of climate impact, industrial innovation, and a growing population, the city is uniquely equipped to lead the fight against the climate crisis. With its natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and the vital Great Salt Lake ecosystem, Salt Lake City is dedicated to preserving its environment and driving sustainable solutions through innovative action.

“Utah’s amazing landscape not only draws millions of outdoor recreationalists from all over the world, it supports multiple industries and generates millions of dollars. As the capital of Utah, Salt Lake City is at the center of innovative solutions for this landscape, including conservation, agriculture, clean energy, inventing new materials, and more. TEDxSaltLakeCity is thrilled to be included as a TEDx Countdown Anchor Event and to devote our 13th annual event to showcasing new solutions from local presenters.” -Jennafer Martin, TEDxSaltLakeCity Lead Organizer

TED selected TEDxSaltLakeCity as one of the top two TEDx events in North America, citing the exceptional quality of our speaker preparation process, which has consistently led to outstanding talks for several years. This recognition is a testament to the strength of our process—encompassing application, curation, coaching, and preparation.

What to Expect: Visionary Ideas & Impactful Solutions

This year, TEDxSaltLakeCity will offer an exciting lineup of thought-provoking talks, immersive experiences, and interactive activation stations highlighting climate innovations from Salt Lake City. About TEDxSaltLakeCity

In the spirit of "ideas change everything," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSaltLakeCity, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxSaltLakeCity, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas change everything, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcastsshort video seriesanimated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
